Biography

Gautam is currently on a deputation from HSBC Group to Saudi Awwal Bank (SAB) as Head of Wholesale Portfolio Risk Management and Senior Advisor, ESG Risk.

Until recently, Gautam was the Chief Risk Officer for HSBC Singapore, and had functional responsibilities over the Risk teams in select Asia Pacific countries. He was a member of bank's Executive Committee at HSBC Singapore and accountable to the Board & Regulators for managing Enterprise wide risks across all risk types, businesses & legal entities. He leads a senior team of subject matter experts across risk domains. 

Gautam is a seasoned banker and Risk professional having over 25 years of experience in financial sector across multiple geographies, with specialization in credit & enterprise risks. He is a trusted advisor to the Board, CEO and the leadership team for developing sustainable business strategies and transformation initiatives, thereby enabling growth and resilience within a robust risk framework and a strong risk culture. 

Gautam is passionate about sustainability and climate risk, and collaborates extensively with the industry and the regulators in Asia. He co-chaired the industry work-group that designed the MAS' Regulatory guidelines on Environmental Risk Management (ENRM) for banks and the Guidelines for Responsible Financing by Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS). He is currently chairing the risk management work-stream of Green Finance Industry Taskforce (GFIT) that published the Handbook on ENRM and is driving the industry capacity building initiatives. As a member of Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) to ASEAN Capital Market Regulators and Ministries of Finance, he co-chairs the work-stream on Transition Standards. 

Gautam has been very active in the innovation eco-system in Singapore as a thought leader, sponsor, mentor and advisor to many Fintechs. He is a technology expert and enthusiast and has contributed to the National KYC Utility project and to the Green ecosystem in use of AI for solving Climate Risk Data challenges. He sits on the Demo Day Judging panel at the Global Hackcelerator and selection panel for the Fintech Awards at the Singapore Fintech Festival. Gautam also serves on various industry bodies, aimed at upskilling and talent development, like Board of Directors of the Risk Management Association (RMA) and Singapore Indian Business Leaders' Roundtable. He is an international speaker, and is frequently called to share his thoughts and experiences at various conferences, workshops & government webinars. 

Gautam holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master's in Business Management from the University of Delhi, and had previously worked with the Indian subsidiary of Standard & Poor's before joining HSBC in 2001. Gautam has been living in Singapore since 2013 with his family, and enjoys travelling with them.
