Biography
Karunia is a career banker with more than 30 years of experience. He spent the initial 16 years of his banking career with DBS Group, with stints in Corporate Banking, Advisory Banking and International Management. He served two stints in DBS’ subsidiaries in Indonesia: as the Vice President Director of Bank DBS Buana (1997–2000) and Country CEO of Bank DBS Indonesia (2003–2005).
Karunia joined UOB Group in 2005, heading UOB Asia’s Capital Markets (North Asia) division. Between 2010 and 2016, Karunia headed UOB Group’s Corporate Banking franchise across its international footprint. In 2017, Karunia established UOB’s Sector Solutions Group, where he now leads industry specialists to develop sector-specific strategies and solutions, including Sustainability-focused initiatives and programmes.
Karunia represented UOB in the MAS-FCAP’s “Green Finance Industry Taskforce”, where he led the working group to formulate the Green and Sustainable Trade & Working Capital Framework which was recommended for industry-wide adoption.
Karunia graduated from University of Notre Dame, USA, in 1989 with a BBA (Summa Cum Laude) Degree. He completed the Pacific Rims Bankers Program in 1996 at the University of Washington (Seattle); Singapore’s Business Leaders Programme by HLCI in 2013; and the Asian Financial Leaders Programme in 2017.
