Overview
As career advisors, we often hear people say, "I can never do a sales job" or "I am not interested in a sales job". They may not know what career paths interest them, but they seem certain that "selling" is not one of them.
Even though we see numerous opportunities in sales – be it for wealth managers, relationship managers, and financial planners - many individuals express disinterest in these roles because they worry about sales targets, which would inevitably create mental pressure, resulting in this pressure being potentially passed to customers (among other reasons).
When we take a step back, we might realize that "selling" is embedded in most jobs. It a soft skill that exists in customer services, it exists when your IT team tries to convince you to adopt a new software, it even exists when we try to pitch an idea to our managers.
In this session, we chat with IBF Fellow Gary Harvey, CEO of St. James Place Wealth Management on his thoughts on Wealth Management and if the notion of selling is to be feared or represents a legitimate career opportunity. What profiles or persons would do well in such roles? In addition to Gary's observations of the industry, this will be an opportunity to find out more about St. James Place, their innovative Partnership programme, training academy and the career opportunities (non-sales included) that they may currently have.
